The Journey

"...If you want to go fast, go alone,
If you want to go far, go together…"
San Proverb

WE FIND A WAY

In 1990 we gave our first steps in the farming landscape. After 28 years we are clear that this journey of discovery will never end. It has been, and still is the most fascinating journey. It is dynamic, volatile, vigorous, and fulfilling. We consider it a privilege to spend our time with people that have a clear passion for what they do.

A GLIMPSE BACK

ETC BIO-ENERGY – ZAMBIA. Over the years we have invested and developed a few projects. Of these one of the most rewarding was the Bio-Energy journey in Zambia. At ETC Bio-Energy in Mpongwe we farmed the most beautiful farm in Africa. With 45 000Ha of land and 13 000ha of fields it is a farmers dream. Big large fields and grateful soils. When the rains of the ITCZ arrive it bursts into life. In winter the aquifer provides the water for the wheat and barley – a true spectacle of vigor. Under our guidance we led the research into Bio-Energy with a full large scale Jatropha Project. In 2011 the project changed hands to ZAMBEEF – a fitting home for the jewel of Zambia.

A FORWARD VIEW

In 1994 we pioneered contract growing within the VERUS group. This led the RSA agri-landscape in its transformation from a single market system to a world class precision farming model with. The next big step is building an inclusive agriculture. This will be done with the acceptance and understanding that the digital world is what will drive the next transition. It is the era of knowledge and it is the era of sharing. We are positioning Virtual Farmer to lead us through this journey. As with every other journey we have taken there is no destination – just a direction and we welcome it with open arms. We invite you to walk with us.

TODAY

CATHEDRAL PEAK WINE ESTATE – KZN. With dedication anything is possible. In 2007 we invested time to plant 2ha of vineyards in the Winterton valley in the Central Drakensberg of KZN in South Africa. It was the gossip of the town. This was soya and maize country. 10 Years later the world of wine has taken note. Our 2015 Barrel Pinotage won the 2017 Michelangelo trophy and gold medal. We are proud. Our first shaky steps have matured into a journey of distinction. Today the project is a proud land mark in the region and a testament to what can be achieved if focus is maintained.
